Zenodo Community for University of Borås

Making research data accessible can feel complicated, as there are many different data repositories and platforms for sharing. In certain fields, there are well-established subject-specific international data repositories, but there are also broad, multidisciplinary repositories. The university now recommends Zenodo as a place to make research data accessible. Zenodo is funded by the EU and operated by CERN in Switzerland. On Zenodo, you can register an account and upload datasets up to 50 GB. It also allows you to create versions and describe data with restricted access.

A community for University of Borås

Just recently, a Zenodo community was created for University of Borås. The benefits of using Zenodo (and the university's community) include the ability to link your publication and any associated source code on GitHub to your dataset. The dataset will receive a DOI through Zenodo and will be clearly associated with the university. Additionally, the library can review the metadata quality of the content uploaded to our community.

If you already have registered datasets or other types of research outputs (articles, presentations, teaching materials, software, or other items) on Zenodo, you can link them to the University of Borås community retroactively.

Another recommended platform for sharing data is DORIS, provided by the Swedish National Data Service (SND). This is a good option if you have datasets that can be described but not made fully publicly accessible. Here too, the library can review the metadata quality.

Things to consider when making research data accessible

When considering sharing your research data publicly, please note that you may not share data that:

  • is subject to confidentiality
  • contains sensitive personal information
  • contains highly protected personal information
  • is critical operational information
  • is copyrighted by someone else

For questions about sharing research data at the end of a research project, please contact the university’s research data support (Data Access Unit) at the email address: hb-dau@hb.se.
