New membership opens doors for researchers in Sweden

DARIAH-EU is a European infrastructure that supports digital research and teaching in the humanities and arts. By joining DARIAH-EU, Sweden enhances its research capacity and its opportunities for collaboration with other European countries.

“This membership gives us opportunities to collaborate on a European stage in the humanities and artistic academic activities,” said Gustaf Nelhans, Associate Professor of Library and Information Science at the Swedish School of Library and Information Science at the University of Borås.

Huminfra Hosts the Consortium

The Swedish national research infrastructure Huminfra will host the national DARIAH consortium in Sweden, but it will be open to all other higher education institutions, cultural heritage institutions, and units once established, to promote further growth of research collaboration in the field. The membership provides researchers in Sweden with access to a range of digital tools and data, and conversely makes Huminfra’s resources available to other DARIAH member countries.

Marianne Gullberg, Director of Huminfra, is very pleased with the news.

“We are very happy that Huminfra is hosting DARIAH-SE. With national membership in both the European infrastructures DARIAH and CLARIN, Swedish and international researchers now have equal access to both language and cultural heritage resources. This is an important step forward for the humanities,” she emphasised.

Koraljka Golub, National Coordinator for DARIAH-SE, also expresses her joy over the new membership.

“Joining DARIAH-EU opens up enormous opportunities for researchers in these fields. It allows us to participate more fully in the European research community and benefit from important digital resources,” she said.

Sweden’s membership in DARIAH-EU is expected to facilitate many projects and initiatives that promote the integration of digital methods in research and teaching. The Swedish Research Council will oversee Sweden’s participation and integration into DARIAH-EU.
