They are listed among the world’s most influential researchers

The compilation shows the top two percent of researchers with the most citations – a common but controversial method of ranking research. It is divided into lifetime achievement and performance up to and including 2023. Individual researchers are ranked based on citation data; the more often other authors refer to a researcher’s work, the higher the ranking. The researchers are classified into 22 research fields and 174 subfields, and the ranking is based on publications in Scopus, a comprehensive citation database owned by Elsevier.
The selection is based on 100,000 researchers worldwide.
The following researchers from the University of Borås are on the list (listed by first name):
- Annelie Sundler, Professor of Caring Science
- Björn Hammarfelt, Professor of Library and Information Science
- Johan Herlitz, Post Retirement Professor of prehospital emergency care
- Jorge A Ferreira, previously Senior Lecturer of Resource Recovery
- Jutta Haider, Professor of Library and Information Science
- Mohammad Taherzadeh, Professor of Resource Recovery
- Rudrajeet Pal, Professor of Textile Management
- Vincent Nierstrasz, Professor of Textile Materials Technology

Björn Hammarfelt, who also researches on bibliometrics and evaluation:
“Generally, I tend to say that one should not draw too many conclusions from these rankings, but of course, it is nice that we are represented, and that the number of researchers at the University of Borås included is increasing. In my opinion, citation statistics are quite uninteresting at the individual level because there are so many factors – research field, seniority, and gender – that influence how many citations an individual receives. However, at an aggregated level, it can say something about the visibility of the research conducted at a particular institution or country.”
Anneli Sundler:
“I am happy and proud of the research that my colleagues and I conduct. This is an international recognition of our research. It also means that our research is making an impact and hopefully can make a difference – which is an important goal for us researchers.”
Mohammad Taherzadeh:
“It is gratifying both for me and the University of Borås. I have been on the list since the ranking began several years ago, and I have also climbed up the list every year. From Sweden, 25 researchers in biotechnology are included, and I am ranked fourth among them. From around the world, there are a total of 1,309 researchers in biotechnology on the list, and I am number 77. This shows that we are at the top in the world in this field.”
Vincent Nierstrasz:
“I am proud of my research group, the Swedish School of Textiles, the academy, and the University of Borås, and that our research efforts in textile material technology are so appreciated by the international research community. Especially in the domain of textile technology, it is not easy to rank high in such a ranking. Personally, I feel a strong recognition for my work and my career in textile technology.”
Rudrajeet Pal:
“It definitely feels good to have been on the list for four years in a row since 2021. It means that our research in the textile and fashion field has a significant impact. Even though it is quite a niche area and there are not many peers in our field worldwide, it is still highly recognized in the scientific world. But our work does not stop here, not until we truly impact society at large.”
