Continued confidence in the Student Union of Borås

For the coming three-year period, the Student Union of Borås was challenged by the newly formed Student Union Iris for the status of student union at the University of Borås. Pro-Vice-Chancellor Kim Bolton explains the decision.

“Both student associations were deemed to meet the formal requirements of the Swedish Higher Education Act. The final choice of which of these student associations will become a student union was based on the number of members in each association. The University of Borås has a very good collaboration with the Student Union of Borås and I look forward to continuing this," he said.

Student engagement seen positively

He is also very pleased that two student associations applied for student union status.

“I am very happy that both the Student Union of Borås and the Student Union Iris applied to become a student union, and I would like to see more student organisations apply in the future. It shows significant student commitment to the university's activities, which is very important for the further development of our education and research as well as student life in Borås," said Kim Bolton.

The Student Union of Borås also looks forward to continuing to work with the university.

“A broad student perspective is something that is very important to us at the Student Union of Borås, mainly to ensure high quality in our educational programmes. This is something we look forward to continuing to work work, not least by developing our sections that increase our contact with students. We thank the Governing Board for their continued confidence in us as a student union and are pleased to have the opportunity to continue to develop our organisation and our work for improvements,” said Linnea Strand, Chair of the Student Union of Borås.

This decision can be appealed within three weeks of its being made.
