The Labs

At the Swedish School of Textiles creativity and theory are combined with practical work in our machine parks and laboratories.

The unique aspect of our laboratory environments is that they provide the opportunity to work with the entire textile process in a full-scale setting. From hand knitting machines to advanced 3D technology, from hand weaving to effective weaving machines. It's possible to elaborate with colours and different types of coatings, work on pattern construction in a traditional manner, and use the latest computer programs. Our well-equipped sewing room offers virtually unlimited possibilities.

Our labs

Digital Crafts Lab

Digital Crafts Lab is one of the newest labs at the Swedish School of Textiles. Here, the focus is mainly on the process of moving from a digital image (graphic design) to its application on materials via laser cutting or digital printing.

Dye & Print Design Lab

The Dye & Print Design Lab offers endless possibilities for creating your own expressions. There is a wide range of equipment, enabling you to work with many different techniques.

Dye & Print Technology Lab

Here the focus is on textile paint, printing, and preparation processes. Here, students and researchers have the opportunity to immerse themselves in textile and production development in a unique environment, one of the few available in the Nordic region. Companies can also come to the lab for training purposes.

Garment Technology Lab

The Garment Technology Lab has a large variety of machines for sewing seams as well as other joining techniques. The machines can join materials such as knits, woven fabrics, leather, fur, and they can also make seams waterproof.

Knitting Technology Lab

Everything a knitting machine can do can be done in the Knitting Technology Lab. It is possible to produce double jersey in large and small patterns, rib, plush and single jersey materials in varying gauges, but also to work in more rigid materials, such as metal, on a special machine, of which there are only five in the world.

Textile Technology Laboratories

This collective name includes four laboratories: Research Lab – Chemistry, Research Lab – Supercritical CO₂, Research Lab – Analysis/Inkjet, and Research Lab – Textile Bio/Plasma Machine.

Textile Testing Lab

Our Textile Testing Lab is one of the few such labs still available in Sweden. The lab gives you the opportunity to evaluate materials and designs through testing, interpreting, and analyses.

Weaving Technology Lab

Here you will find the most modern equipment in both jacquard weaving, as well as in machine and hand weaving, together with more traditional equipment.
